The National Broadcasting Company was established on November 15, 1926, on a radio broadcasting corporation called the "Radio Corporation of America (RCA). Later on July 1, 1941, NBC became a television network, first advertising Bulova Watches, prior to a Brooklyn Dodgers showing. Factors such as NBC introducing color television to the nation in 1954, NBC became a substantial hit, leading many other television networks left in the dust. Some interesting facts that are related to NBC, is that the main headquarters are in New York City's Rockefeller Center (GE Building to be exact), and because of the colorful six "oval-shaped" figures, it is also said to be the "Peacock Network". GE (General Electric's) took ownership of NBC in 1986; therefore GE currently hosts NBC in their facility. Also, NBC is the first company to have an accepted audio trademark, consisting of the musical pitches: G-E-C in 1931. This was known as the "Chimes", because they were cued after every commercial on their hosted networks. They also adopted a new musical sequence: G-E-C-G during the World War II period, to notify a cue to switch stations. This temporary sequence was known as the "fourth chime", because of the added note. NBC is one of the best, if not, best station provider on television in the United States. As of 2003, NBC served over 103 million viewers, and appeared over 97 percent of televisions nation-wide. Having over 200 affiliates, NBC also owns 10 operating stations in the United States.
From the 1930s to the 1950s, NBC was in a lucky age, which was known as the "Golden Days of Network Broadcasting". This was taken place because of the Great Depression, and how people (Americans) were in desperate need of entertainment. NBC and other networks were there to provide comedy, hit songs, and news for their subscribers, and to notify the public that the company was there to help establish some sort of peace with them.
The NBC Radio field lasted for over 40 years, and did its time. Working with companies such as Westwood One, CBS Radio, and the Mutual Broadcasting System, NBC Radio was a success as a whole, but it was only a matter of time. In the 70s, NBC finally gave in, because there was just not enough profit accumulated for their radio broadcasting to exist.
Today, one of the most recognized branches of NBC would probably be the television network provided by them. The ticker symbol VNBC, which is used as the symbol to look up quotes on NBC, is a very useful tool anyone may use to review the company's stock business. Over the period of 2000-2008, the graph of Last Trade has experienced numerous changes. In late 2000, the value was $1.19, and in December of 2004, it was $32.24! The consistency and steadiness of NBC's trade has been extremely varied, and uncertain. Recently, as of 2007, NBC has not done too well, but may recover suddenly, because of uncertainty in the Stock Market.
NBC was, and still is famous for many of its contributions to not only the American Society, but also over other parts (continents) of the world. Whatever is on television, think of the hard work and dedications companies such as NBC has accomplished for people around the globe to observe. No matter what you like: sports, news, a band, a specific commercial, etc, NBC has done it. Despite its fallbacks in stocks, and its sellouts by other networks, NBC has survived a great amount of competition, and because of it, has become one of the most well-known companies in the world |
