Lucas Arts Lucas Arts is currently a videogame developer and publisher in American Society. Most successful with the Star Wars franchise, Lucas Arts still continues to produce games in the Adventure, and First Person Shooter genres of the gaming industry. Founded in May of 1982, it was named after the founder himself, George Lucas. Having only over 350 employees, it is amazing how ambitious Lucas is to achieve his extremely high standards that are accepted today. Lucas Arts became extremely lucky when distributing their first two games: "Ballblazer" and "Rescue on Fractalus!" These games were popular even before they were originally released in 1984. Beta versions were distributed to the public one week before Atari received the game for review. The games were for the Atari 5200 under the Lucasfilm Games logo. The most famous of the logos by Lucas Arts, would most likely be the "Golden Man" logo, which was recognized from 1991-2005, consisting of the Companies first letter: "L", and a man with his arms raised like a "V", with the sun above him. People say that the sun might actually be an eyelash, therefore making the whole logo an eye. Although not too substantial to the company's reputation, it is something any individual may notice after a glance. The Lucas Arts company is seen as a company that works with many others. Electronic Arts, Atari, Activision, and Epyx were all various companies that associated with Lucas Arts. Although Lucas Arts is in one of the most competitive fields in the world (Entertainment), they continue to release great products. Soon enough, George Lucas will not only be famed for the Star Wars franchise, but also for the Indiana Jones, because a game will be based off of the movie: Indiana Jones: and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Some of the most famous games on Lucas Arts include the Star Wars Battlefront series, the X-Wing which was a space combat simulator in your home, Rebel Assault, and Star Wars: Dark Forces. Many of the games that are produced by Lucas Arts can be considered remakes of other games that become successful, or even more successful than the original game. Dark Forces for example, is basically a remake of "Doom", which was a first person shooter on the PC originally. Dark Forces was a "Star Wars" version, you might say. There are also games titled "Lego Star Wars", which gave the Star Wars series a Lego feeling. Ironically, it turned out to be an awesome game for anyone to play. Only substantial issue was pointed out about the game play itself: the camera movement. George Lucas decided to keep his company, a private one, as oppose to well-known open companies, such as Disney. Although a private-owned business, it is still a phenomenal output on many families, and gamers out there in the world. With its great Star Wars hits, and mostly first person shooter based foundation, any person that favors the FPS feeling, will find something they enjoy playing. Lucas Arts, being a fairly new company, still manages to with hold a great status in reputation, and continues to grasp it with its broad and exceptionally great view on gaming. |
