To climb the management ladder of success you have to be able to keep it up. Drive, Determination, and a lot of hard work will be the best possible path to success and becoming a good leader.
Some tips for making your career better and climbing to the next stage of management success are:
- Talk to more successful people and get tips from them. Watch for these people, and create personal relationships with them. This is needed for growth. Ask for their advice when it is needed and it comes to your career. They will likely be happy to help you.
- Get into your company. You'll quickly widen your horizons and meet new people that may be able to help you/show off your leadership skills. Make sure that you genuinely want to assist others, and that it is known.
- Make sure to build your credibility. Make people know that you are trustworthy and that you can be respected. Listen to your coworkers and make sure that you follow through with your jobs, and that you don't play favorites/take sides. Others will follow you if they respect you.
- Remember the people below you. Make sure that you have relationships in lower departments, as it can help show your leadership skills. If you can help people below you by discovering their skills and helping them improve them, it will look good. If your entire department wants to do well, it’s more likely that you will.
- Make yourself known and make your voice heard. If it’s apparent that you can speak in public well, you will likely succeed. Volunteer to speak to events such as service clubs and civic organization to practice.
Don't do too much of one thing, variety is needed. To be successful you need a bunch of job assignments and projects, and different development processes. Over time you'll learn to become more versatile, and it will be easier to take on more challenges. |
