To inspire your staff, a system to motivate, evaluate, inform, and reward them is needed. Some management utilizes fear, though “management by intimidation” is not popular and is also very ineffective, not to mention cruel. Don’t lead like a dictator, be a leader that is open to employee’s suggestions.
Here are ways to inspire your staff:
- First of all, you need to be inspired. Conduct a business plan, and think of the employee’s life and what their job means to them. Think how you started the company, and how you want things to go well.
- Get feedback from the staff. Not only will they feel happier towards you, but they will also let you know what’s important to them, and how you can make their job better for them and for the company. Make sure that you’re not too blunt about your questions, and that you mix them with conversations between you and them. You should also write down what you see as important to implement into the future.
- Fun is key, as it can calm many staff members down, and it can also inspire them. Make sure to celebrate little milestones, or birthdays. Lunch occasionally is also a nice surprise.
- Reward and make workers well known. A public “job well done!” motivates people to no belief. Expressing your satisfaction in public motivates others to work harder, and also makes them feel good.
- Create a speaker’s bureau. Try bringing in experts that know how to get people motivated, and look into holding sessions where a speaker talks about something work-related. Local speakers are sometimes willing to talk for free, or for a very small fee. You never know the talent you could end up finding!
- Correct issues that are brought up. Ignoring complaints will cause people to look down on you, when as management they should be looking up to you. If people know that they have a voice, they’ll work harder to make things happen for the better. Make sure to thank those who bring issues up, and then fix the problem at hand.
